RE: [RC] Winter riding jackets - Wendy Harris

Title: RE: [RC] Winter riding jackets

I live in Michigan so our winters are also cold.  I've been riding for 3 years in a Mountain Horse winter coat and pants.  Absolutely love both!  The coat is extremely warm and also has zippers so you can vent it in the back, on the wrists and in the rear so it can lay over the saddle - if you get to warm.  I usually wear a polar fleece top underneath and I keep very warm.  Last year I purchased a pair of their winter riding boots (short lace up ones) and loves those also.  One pair of Smart Wool socks and that's it.  Feet have never gotten cold.  They have a web-site, check it out.

Subject: [RC] Winter riding jackets

Okay, I have asked about tights and winter tights and
now on to the next winter question.  My husband has
promised to buy me a nice winter riding jacket for
christmas, I am so excited.  Does anyone have any tips
or brands they like or have ridden in that really
work.  I used to have a carhart jacket, only it kept
getting caught on the back of my saddle, so it
retired.  I also had a down jacket, but it shrunk and
left feathers everywhere.  Plus when I got too warm
and started sweating I had no ventilation and it was
horrid for tacking up.  I am in Minnesota so you can
imagine conditions, although I train in an indoor
which is not too cold and only ride trail above 30
degrees usually.  I like the looks of State Line Tacks
winter riding jacket but has anyone tried it?  Thanks! Amy
