Re: [RC] New Riders - proposals - Howard Bramhall

Don't you mean 4 hours minimum for the 25 and 8 hours minimum for the 50?  Is that ride time or does it include vet holds as well?

Subject: [RC] New Riders - proposals

The AERC Horse Welfare committee is proposing what you suggest as a rule
change - that all new riders be required to complete their first 4 rides at
a slower pace, 2/3 of the speed allowed currently under the 12 hours per 50
miles. i.e. 4 hours max for a 25, 8 hours max for a 50. The committee is
also recommending that horses must meet criteria within 30 minutes of the
finish (it is currently 60 minutes).

The Board will be asked to consider these proposals at the meetings next
year in Reno. This is a good time for serious comment and discussion.

And - if you have comments or proposals that you would like AERC to
consider, your best bet is to contact a director, and have them take your
proposals to the Board. The discussion on the email lists is useful for
tossing ideas around, but if you - or anybody - is serious about having AERC
consider your ideas, find a director willing to introduce them for
discussion at a regular meeting. You can also send your comments directly to
AERC via email. Get involved!

Hello.

Should there be  suggested "arrival too early/fast" times for gates/checks
for new riders so that they will not try to pace too fast?

It would not have to be mandatory or a set rule to follow.

It would help the new riders' horses.

Thanks,
Heather
