[RC] re: sport saddle soreness -PANEL saddles - Teresa Van Hove

I know I am going to get suggestions for the panel saddles. I don't think they are for me.
>If I have to get one so he can be comfortable, I will. But I rode him in an Ortho-flex

communication had to be heels and reins. Not our way to ride

Not all panel saddles are built alike. I ride an OF on my mare, (actually I've modified it from original) but it didn't work on
my shorter backed gelding. He had a Berney bros a/p for a year and
then I found someone local to me listing a used Reactor Panel. The R/P is 'THE' saddle for Grey Moun, and it sits you MUCH closer contact than an OF. If you look at the underside of an OF the mid-point of the saddle is held over an inch above the panels. In the R/P the mid-point of the tree rests on the panels by design to form a 3rd contact point on each panel. Plus R/P panels are quite a
bit more flexible than the OF panels, are shorter, and being
attached by velcro you can widen the gullet up as needed and
also set the attachment points front to back to get the most
uniform pressure along the panels. I'm sure you can
find an R/P dealer in calif -they have a great trial pgm,
so I bet you could meet a dealer to demo a saddle briefly
to see what one felt like for you and your horse.

**Honest I dont sell these personally <g>

'nother possibility might be modifying the sport-saddle,
either getting a saddle maker to shorten the panels for
you, or possibly 'breaking' the tree piece in back and
setting it wider if your horses loin soreness seems to
come from the points of the back tree.

Cheers,
Teresa, Shade and Grey Moun
