[RC] Missouri Fox Trotters - Scott Johnson

I am considering buying a Missouri Fox Trotter that I will use for Limited Distance, and eventually 50s (hopefully). I found the fox trot to be an extremely comfortable gait on my "test drive". From what I have read so far, the MFT is known to have a lot of stamina. does well in a mountainous terrain, and has a calm disposition. As I am finding I'm not an Arab person (I tried really hard for 3 years), I felt this breed would be a good choice for me personally. I searched the RC archives and found an interesting thread on gaited horses in general. Most of the posts were from 1997-1999. One comment that I read several times was that vets sometimes aren't familiar with gaited horse and have a hard time at the trot out, because the horse most likely will be gaiting, and not trotting. In fact, when the MFT is fox trotting, it's head is bobbing, and it is supposed to be.

So.........I know some of you out there ride gaited horses- this has been brought up before. What I'm wondering is whether the vet check is indeed an issue. Thanks!
