[RC] Ride stewards] - rides2farNATRC requires stewards at all of their rides, although in deference to some legal liability issues they are now called "Rules Interpreters": Good Lord has it come to this? So as a manager, I'll decide whether I can afford that extra vet or a "rules interpreter". I remember when judges for big horse shows had to be from at least 500 miles away so you had to count on a plane ticket in addition to their fee. Thinking back to the few times I've seen horses crash, the first two I can think of were concsiencious riders not going that hard on horses who'd done this all before. Having some anal retentive person in a straw hat flustering around with a rule book wouldn't have done a darned bit of good whether they were anybody's relative or not. Let's stick to the ideas that help the riders & vets catch a problem before it gets out of hand because the rider is the first line of defense and the vets can help them interpret what they sense. We can't write a rule to cover every little clue that a horse gives that something's up.
