Re: [RC] Thoughts/comments on cart training? - Jon . Linderman

Thats what I was thinking too. Miles for conditioning w/out "back miles",
of course coupled with arena work. Winters here offer such goofy weather
here & trail riding is a big iffy at times. I have access to a nice sand
arena for ring work & thought maybe the cart would be a nice adjunct for
some conditioning as well. He really seems to drive off the hind end when
hes trotting, but then thats my view from back there!

Very good point, but I was also thinking, what a great training tool for
conditioning
and miles, WITHOUT the stresses of a rider on the back!

Curious for some input on pro's/con's of training my endurance horse
some
w/a jog cart.

The education of being driven is wonderful. The main "con" is that
driving
limits lateral flexion and encourages a horse to travel and maneuver with
a
straight body--which is NOT what you want under saddle. I'd think it
would
be fine in small doses, as long as there is also riding going on to keep
the
ability to move laterally alive and well.
