[RC] frightening conclusions to ponder - Cindy Collins

I was sharing with my friends Frank S. and Lauren S. that I have a
favorite quote I try to remember each day in my classroom. I think it
easily applies to our discussions about rules and regulations and their
effectiveness. I kindly beg the author's forgiveness for re-writing this
wonderful message and adapting it to the sport of endurance. Let this be
something we ponder over our Thanksgiving holiday:

"I've come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in
my horse's endurance career. It is my personal approach that creates the
climate. It's my daily mood that makes the weather. I have tremendous
power to make my horse's life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of
torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt
or heal. In all situations, it is MY response that decides whether a
crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a horse treated humanely or
inhumanely...will become a successful endurance horse with a long career
or be broken down."
