I read it and personally liked it a lot. I think I did reply some to a
comment or to but I haven't gotten used to the reply/reply all change so I
think it
went back to just individuals rather than the whole list. Sorry. I would
be
interested in what others think about the proposal. Later, Kathy & Nick

Kathy - I support this proposal. I don't know if it will actually make much
difference in the beginning - it's rare to see horses that take 15 minutes
or longer to recover, but I like the proposal becuase:
1. It's a start - 15 minutes might not be the 'magic number' but it's an
attempt to further identify horses who are working beyond their ability on a
given day, and give riders the incentive to slow down (no placing, no
points, might as well back off and live to ride another day)
2. I like the concept of separating 'racing' and 'completing' based upon the
horse's ability (or stress level) on a given day. Sometimes it's just best
to say 'this is not a good day to race'.
3. And I do believe it would make riders ride more carefully, thinking of
the 15 minute pulse... just another little 'be careful' voice. Maybe the
horse actually takes 10 minutes - so the rider thinks 'whoa, that was almost
15 minutes, and 15 minutes is bad - I'd better slow down a little'.

Perhaps if AERC adopted this, we would get used to the idea of separating
those that are running within their ability, and those that need to slow
down or take extra time at the holds. And once we get used to this concept,
we might eventually identify additional parameters (e.g. no gut sounds) to
further help make the distinction.
