Re: [RC] Good Hay - Truman Prevatt

No kidding Ed. Who wants to wrestle with hay anyway. I want something that can be managed and when I'm on the road something my wife can manage. 40 to 50 pounds a bail is an idea size in my book.

When we were out in ID in 2001, we got some local hay and the bails were in the 70 to 80 pound range. I actually broke them down to half bails and retied them so my wife could handle them since she had to take the horses alone back part way while I went on a business trip. Pain the butt - absolutely. Saving the marriage - priceless. For everything else there is Master Card ;-)!

Wow! I thought that the average 72 # per bale (28/ton) that was put up on my field last summer was heavy. They would barely go up my hay elevator without ripping out.

I much prefer the 40 lb. kicker bales (50 /ton) that were put up in the
midwest. I am going to make sure they are lighter next year. At 40 lbs. I
can lift them to the top of my trailer, but not at 70+ lbs
