Re: [RC] related to hauling - Elite

We are having the same problem with the hay flying off the mangers. I'm
thinking of getting screens that stay in the window even when the drop down
windows are open. Wouldn't this break the wind flow enough to keep the hay
in the manger?

On a related note, my 3-H slant-load has mangers which are
~8" deep.

During the hot summer, the horses wear their fly masks as
protection against flying debris and we leave the drop-down
windows open (there are grills to prevent them leaning out
into oncoming logging trucks).

Trouble is, any hay I put in the mangers then flies around
inside the trailer/out the windows/up their noses as we
travel along.

So far I've been experimenting with jamming a cordura hay
bag into the manger (laid on its back), so they can pluck
hay through the hole, while the rest of it stays secure,
but it doesn't work great (bag often gets pulled up and out).

I'm wondering about sewing some sort of "manger skirt" to
secure over the entire top of the manger, with a slit for
each horse to poke his muzzle through to pull out hay.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

Or does anyone have any other bright ideas about how to make
sure the horses have hay in front of them during the journey -
but without most of it going up their nose/out the window?

(If I hung a hay bag above the manger, they wouldn't have
any space for their heads to fit)
