[RC] Owyhee 100 - John Teeter

It seems like only Monday I was pulling markers from last week - then by Thursday, I was out marking trail for tomorrows 100/80 mile ride. There are currently 11 starters in the 100 and 2 in the 80 (and we're trying to convince them that a 100 would be better for their horses;). Mostly everyone is here to have a good ride and a good time. Dave Rabe came back (with Connie Creech). Tereasa Cross drove up alone from CA. It snowed yesterday in Salt Lake, so some of the Utah folks won't make it:(

It's nice to have such a small, yet knowledgeable group of riders. It should be a fun day. It will be cold (18df at the start - there is snow on the Owyhee front).

The first two loops are 20 miles each. with out vet checks at Rye Patch. There was discussion about the criteria (its going to be 64 to keep everyone from standing too long in the cold) and hold times (currently at 30min/30min/60min/30min/30min for loops of 20/20/12/15/20/13.

It would be nice to hear your (collective) opines on criteria and hold times and how they are effected by low temp. conditions. I don't think we'll have much wind/moisture, but it will be cold most of the day.

The ride meeting will be inside tonight we think. Sue Hedgecock (who didn't go home after the 5 day ride:) made a mega pot of potato soup which should last for a couple of days, so we'll eat and discuss strategies with the riders .

Hopefully it will be safe and sane outing.

anyway, nice to see folks pulling in.

johnt
