Oak trees- You're right. Acorn Toxcicity--This year the squirrels are picking them up on the first bounce. Either we have a larger number of squirrels then usual, or this winter is going to be a stinker. I don't have any acorns on the ground for the horses to get into. Not the same as prior years.
Oak itch. Yes, same paddock- put 5 different horses there at different times, and 4 don't have a problem. Then there is my "frail flower" gelding. A good endurance horse, but if there is something that will make him itch or whatever, he is bothered. I used bacon grease on him the last time, and it worked better than all the other things I have used in the past. In the other paddocks/pastures, he is under oak trees, also, but doesn't seem to have an itch there. Go figure. Karen
