[RC] [Guest] Plantation/Buena Vista Saddles - Ridecamp Moderator

Ray O'Donohue rno2m@xxxxxxxxxxxx
This is in reply to the query re using a "plantation" saddle for endurance, from a Field Trial rider, not an endurance rider. The short answer is "yes".As always,of course, the devil is in the details.I use a Buena Vista saddle, much worn and modified, for about a thousand fairly fast miles each year chasing bird dogs in rough areas at Field trials. The Buena Vista is somewhat unique in that the rider sits on both his legs and seat bones rather than his seat bones alone. You can usually see various good and bad examples of the Buena Vista on e-bay.They have much in common with Universal Pattern trooper saddles. You may have been offered a Plantation saddle which is more of a mainstream design than the Buena Vista;I have no experience with those. But given the EXTREME range of saddle types seen in Endurance competition-I would think the endurance riders on this discussion group would say,if you like it,use it!
