UMECRA has its own, very popular, milage program to
recognize horses. All miles from UMECRA sanctioned rides [endurance, LD
(gasp!), and even CTR (shudder!)] count. This coupled with the ability to
do two rides in one weekend, means that most UMECRA horses start out on shorter
distances, learn their jobs, and then do longer rides if the owner wants.
I think it is a good system that could be emulated nationwide.

ps. If you don't want to ride short distances
for whatever reason, no one forces you to do that either.
