Foothill Trails Dist Horse Rescue Plan 2003

The Foothill Trails District Neighborhood Council is composed of three equestrian communities, Lake View Terrace, Shadow Hills and La Tuna Canyon, all in the north east corner of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles.



We have an emergency list of horse trailers and volunteers to help outside communities as well as neighbors within the community for emergency evacuation of horses and placement to temporary safe havens&



We have secured permission (in the event of an emergency) from local arenas and parks for horses.

Trailers: We have a list of contact for approximately 25-40 trailers of various sizes from 2 horse straight to 8 horse



Number of Volunteers Within the community we have numerous experienced horse owners that would volunteer. 30-50 members of AERC, ETI, San Fernando Rangers, Polo Club etc& These people would be happy to assist to feed & water and monitor horses as well as transport them.



Food & Water: We have contact with the local Hardware stores and Feedstores (24 hours) for hay and water buckets.



Lights and power: We have members of the community that have generators and lights and emergency lights.



Safe Horse Havens (Free)



Arena Placement of horses: We can find temporary placement for up to 450 or more horses. Ideally having horses with halters and lead ropes would be of great help.

Orcas Park Arena 80-100 horses requires halter and tie ropes

Hansen Dam Equestrian Facility Arena 100-150 horses requires halter and tie ropes

San Fernando Rangers Arena 30-75 Horses - requires halter and tie ropes

Lake View Terrace Rec Center Round Pens (3 different sizes) 20-30 horses requires halter and tie ropes

There are many private homes with potential backyard stalls in the neighborhood.
