[RC] Diarrhea in Older Horse - Tamara Taylor

Another message from an endurance person.

I had an older TWH gelding that had very watery diarrhea the last three to
four weeks of his life, and I also couldn't get it to slow down. I tried
kaopectic (misspelled), till we were both covered in the stuff.

I think your friend needs to have her Vet run a CBC on her horse to make sure
nothing is going on inside. Do get his teeth floated and do run a fecal count
to make sure he is not worm over loaded.

I would start feeding him small meals throughout the day, I'm guessing that
he is still interested in food. Maybe grain him, really keep an eye on his
weight, and water intake. When older horse get diarrhea, it's so easy for them
to
get dehydrated and before you know it you have another health problem on your
hands.

Feeding him grain mixed with water is a good way to get fluids back into him.
I wish her the best of luck getting this under control.
