[RC] 25 LD - rides2far

I discovered that 25 was tough for her even after a whole summer of
conditioning and two completed 25's. If I'd tried a 50 on her, I think I
would have been asking too much of her,

It's all relative. This past weekend at the Witchdance ride they also had
a fun ride. There was a western built muscled up paint entered in the fun
ride. On her rump instead of a number they'd written in large letters
"FUN". Later, after I finished the 55 with my horse I was walking back to
the trailer and saw the same horse but in the course of doing her 13
miles she had sweated off the "N" so now her rump stated, "FU". It caused
me to pause and ponder. >g<
One reason it's impossible to state what speed or distance horses should
go is that they're born at different levels of inate capacity. If you
horse can "just survive" but not have fun doing 50, LD is appropriate.
Same goes for the rider.

If anyone wants to debate every side of the LD subject, I highly
recommend reading all 10 zillion posts in the archives, then if we think
of something new to add that hasn't already been stated at least 5
zillion times, have at it.

Angie
