Re: [RC] [RC] What is the point? - ll cole

Common sense; Some folks got it, some folks don't. You can't and won't legislate it.

The experienced riders are busy protecting their rights to "do it my way" because this is what works for me and my horse. We all know that it's the newbies( myself included) that will be making the mistakes from their lack of knowledge and experience OR the insensitive jerks that misuse their horses for whatever self gratification.

Us newbies are lurking around here trying to pick up whatever valuable information there is to be had(plenty to be sure) and looking at the high profile events where evidently experienced riders are having horses die. Hmm!

Granted, I think most of us care about our horses. But the APPEARANCE that maybe this sport doesn't, or that we could have done more or better for them is what will cause the grief. As Mr Greenall put it, if we don't put our house in order, some other interested group with an alternative agenda may do it for us.

Everyone may have to give a little or adjust. We may have to try some ideas we don't care for. But we need to identify the cause or causes of the problem and implement solutions that may or may not work. If they don't work, then toss them and try another approach. The new committee is a step in the right direction, but I think not enough.

Barry Cole.
