[RC] trail riding in a group - DAldr94141

Hi. I have a 5 yr. old gelding. He was broke to ride last year. The trainer offered this suggestion to get him used to walking away in the other direction from the others, to get him used to others coming "at" him from the opposite direction and this gets a horse used to leading.
Say you have 5 horses in a line on trail. The first horse is the leader for 5 minutes. That horse then turns around and walks toward the end of the line while the group keeps on walking. That horse is now walking toward the end and keeps going for a few more steps past the last horse then turns around. He is now last. Now the 2nd horse in line is the leader for 5 minutes. This works very well. As you get up to the front again to lead and your 5 min. are up again, you will walk to the end of the line but walk a few more steps before turning around and catching up again. Your horse will alse learn to walk a little faster to catch up.
This is a fun game and it works.
