Re: [RC] Multi-day rides in the East - John Teeter> no urge to do 250 miles worth of loops around the same basecamp.as I'm in the process of marking 260 miles around the same base camp (under the direction of steph:) - the difficultly is getting away from the base camp in interesting ways (while minimizing the duplication of trail) and looping through unique country each day. It's not easily (nor always successfully) accomplished. But with each of the loops being 50 miles (except for the costume day) one still sees quite a bit of country. Basically, the loops are looking either like lolly-pops or figure 8s with the out vet checks at the intersections of the pop or 8:) There's a trade-off b/t the joys of point-to-point (w/o any duplication of trail but with having to move camp every day) and the single base camp where you have some duplication but don't have to have a driver. We're lucky enough to be where we have @80-@100 miles of the oregon trail and more of the old silver city stage roads to work with as well.
