Re: [RC] [Guest] beet pulp and molasses - suendavid

Most horses don't get goofy on beetpulp, so I still like the complete feeds
based on BP. The molasses content itself will vary pretty widely. Karen
Chaton has some info on molasses content, I'm not on my regular computer, so
don't have it handy. If memory serves, Purina Complete Advantage is fairly
low, but don't hold me to it.:-)

Yes, shredded bp is less likely to contain added molasses, because a lot of
manufacturers will add it to help hold pellets together. The smaller the
pellet, the more likely it is to contain molasses. As for how to tell---read
the feed tag. if it contains added molasses, it'll say so.

Susan - What do you recommend for a complete feed (that will not make the
horse bounce off the walls) to use in place of the beet pulp? And how can
I know if my beet pulp pellets have molasses in them? Is the shredded less
likely to have molasses?

Thanks,
Pat Bush, AERC #1676
