Re: [RC] OT Kittens - CMNewell

If their eyes are gunky and welded shut it is very likely they
have distemper. You want to keep them away from all of
your other animals (dogs and cats) and make sure you
disinfect yourself going between the same. Be very very
careful with your own animals. Hopefully yours are also
vaccinated.

No; if they have gunky eyes, it is far more likely they have one of the respiratory bugs which kittens are prone to.
"Distemper" is feline panleukopenia--it is a parvovirus which causes vomiting, diarrhea, and low white counts, both of which combine to make secondary bacterial infections likely.

Feline distemper or the common respiratory viruses--calicivirus and herpes virus are not cross-infective to dogs, either, though canine parvovirus does appear to have mutated from a feline pathogen.
