I doubt that many regular ambulatory vets in practice carry around several
hundred liters--which may be what they need at a big ride where the
weather
conditions are indicative of problems.

And I forgot to mention with the above that the vet in day-to-day practice
is much more apt to see SICK horses that are apt to be acidotic, and so is
also much more apt to be carrying something like lactated Ringer's as a
major portion of his/her fluids--which is totally inappropriate for a
crashed endurance horse.  I was lucky--being primarily in repro practice, I
mostly used saline anyway, and that IS useful in endurance horses.  So I
could just keep a big supply of saline and keep turning it over doing
uterine lavages...  Plain Ringers is likely a somewhat better choice, but at
least if you have SOME Ringers, you can make up a lot of bulk with saline if
you have to.
