Granted, after reading Darolyn's post I'd be a bit hesitant to allow anyone to try to give my horse fluids by nasal tube but I believe in an uncompromised horse excess water would pass through the system. The horse's gut had apparently shut down and nothing was passing through. They don't just do that standing around. I'm sure the vets there were no strangers to these type symptoms. However, fortunately for our sport no one vet sees that many horses die and may not notice a pattern. If a rider does, it's good to let them know theirtheory...but until the veterinary community tells me a horse drank himself to death at a ride I'll be darned if I'm going to stop my horse from drinking!
