[RC] A Thousand Country Roads - Jim Holland

This is not horse related....but somehow seems to touch what we as Long
Riders can identify with.

If you haven't read "The Bridges of Madison County", then you need to
read that FIRST....or this won't mean anything to you.

If you HAVE read "The Bridges of Madison County", then you need to read
"A Thousand Country Roads". It's a small book, but worth the read.

I won't spoil it for you with details...but there is one quote by author
Robert James Walker that touched my feelings about life. Kincaid asks
his son, that he was unaware of, to burn all his photos when he
dies....so he can "sweep the path of his life clean".

The quote:

"My life is worth no more than what I have done with it, and I've always
seen the search for immortality as ludicrous, just as elaborate coffins
are a pathetic attempt to evade the carbon cycle".

I read it on a bright fall day, lying in the hammock in my barn, with
the soft whuffles of my horses nearby, the mountains in the distance,
and a soft breeze with the promise of winter whispering through the
trees. Read it at a time of reflection for you...you won't regret it....

Jim, Sun of Dimanche+, and Mahada Magic
