Re: [RC] men in tights - Charles

I think we have stayed within the intent of the sport.

Attire is important in the sense that what you wear can make your ride
easier or harder (chafing from jeans for example). Why men have issues
about tights factors into that and is valuable for self assessment and for
marketing.

Promotion of the sport is also important. How do we get more people
involved in endurance rides? One way is to make it more visible to the
common person. What better way than a calendar?

Finally, what is wrong with a calendar showing people on horses doing neat
stuff? I'm interested. I'd love to have a calendar to put up next to my
wife's eventing calendar.

PS: Why should we deny someone their 15 minutes (ok, 30 days or so) of fame?

While I find the discussion on tights mildly entertaining, how about just
sticking to the original intent of our sport, and that is riding, enjoying
our horses and the challenge of trails, new and old. It seems to me there
is enough marketing of the human body already that we don't need to do
this
within our sport. I admire athletic and accomplished people, men and
women,
young and old. Could we please just leave it this way, and leave the
marketing to the clothing manufacturers, perfume and cosmetics industries?

Depends. I'll gladly have my picture taken in tights for a calendar,
but
I'm not sure that I or my horse is an image Endurance wants to project
or
even inflict on the world.

If the calendar is for Endurance riders, then why not.

IF the calendar is part of a larger plan to get people into endurance,
then
I suggest using women. It will have more marketing appeal. For women,
it
shows strong women doing interesting things. For Men it shows women in
spandex.

PS: Why not two calendars? Beefcake and Cheesecake?
