Re: [RC] Endurance trucks - Heidi Smith

Heidi,

I was under the impression, at least in California, that no matter what
speed limits were posted, that anyone
hauling a trailer had to stick to 55 MPH....
Karen

Karen, as I stated, CA is less. You are correct. But CA is the exception.
Here in Idaho, and in states such as WA, NV, and MT, you're just plain road
hazard if you are much slower than the 75 mph posted on the freeways. OR is
usually 65 for all. Been awhile since I've been there, but I think CO is 65
as well. WY is 75. And in CA, on a two-lane freeway where the trucks in
the right lane are going 65 and the cars in the left lane are doing 75-80,
it pays to at least get in line with the truckers, no matter WHAT is posted.
Just my experience...

Likewise here in Idaho on our secondary two-way roads, speed limit is
usually 65, so you are a road hazard going much less unless the road is
windy--especially if passing is limited. Just "going with the flow" on the
rural highway between town and our place is between 65 and 70, and forcing
the truckers to have to pass you (and they will!) is both hazardous and poor
road etiquette. My usual policy is to conform to what the truckers do. The
cars are more maneuverable and can accelerate more rapidly, and hence can
get around a trailer with more safety.

Heidi
