[RC] Re:Training accident opinions please OT - q jessen

When my mom had her mare at the trainers, the mare had
gotten her front leg stuck in a fence and sliced it
right open. We had to bring her home and have our vet
come and stich it up. We never thought of having the
trainer pay for our vet bill. With any horse/rider any
number of accidents can happen. With a trainer, they
of all people should know this. You are paying them to
train your horse. If they get hurt on the job, that is
part of what their job intels. You shouldn't have to
pay for it. And if you would have called the vet to
check your horses nose, your trainer would have a fit
if you tried to make her pay your vet bill.

Would especially like an answer from people who
train for a living but
appreciate any opinions. I had my horse in training
and he had a fluke
stumble where he went to his knees and skinned his
nose. No history of
tripping. The trainer came off over his shoulder
and her glasses cut her
eye area under the brow. She would like me to pay
her deductible charge on
her health insurance. Is this reasonable or
customary? Thanks for your
help. Lynn
