Re: [RC] [RC] Western Raised horses out East - Sunset Farm

Hey Roger,
I brought my wrangling horse that I used on the dude ranch I worked at in Cody, WY home with me to SC, she had been range bred and raised before the ranch bought her to use in the string, so I guess she qualifies. The only real adjustment issue I had with her was the first winter's haircoat, it was inordinately thick and heavy for our milder winters, I brought her home in September and by November she was sweating under all her hair, she shed out in the spring and all subsequent winters she has never had that much hair again. .The humidity bothered her a little bit at first but she quickly adjusted. On the up side we had a significant snowfall and freeze one winter and she taught all my eastern raised horses how to stick a foot in the water trough to break the ice(I witnessed this) and it is the only time she does it, and also how to paw the snow/ice off the grass in the pasture. I say go for it, should be a tough horse good in rough footing, hope this helps a little, oh, Cody is in the top northwest corner of Wyoming, the dude string wintered in MT on a couple thousand acre ranch around Billings, Mt. Hope to see you at Dawsonville, Lynn Kenelly
