Re: [RC] [RC] rash (human) question - Laurie Durgin

I too have allergies. Could be heat rash. But it could also be a dermatitis, heat rash I don't think itches. I bet it's an allergy. Some people are allergic to rubber. I used to get rashes from the rubbery edges in some breeches ,till I cut them off.OR maybe something in the lining of your boots. Try some baby powder with cornstarch.I also found I got a rash where my shorter socks ended, when I went to knee high socks(even in summer 80-90 plus 60% + humidity) that stopped.Try double rinsing your socks, could also be fabric softners,I am sensitive to one brand (the perfumes), but not another.SOme lotions, (some sunblocks and Jergens give me rashes, etc).Laurie

Subject: [RC] rash (human) question

Well, it just dawned on me that RC would be the place
to ask this.

This summer I have developed a new problem: when I
ride for any longer than a couple hours I get an ugly,
bumpy, painful red rash on my ankles. Just my ankles.
It can take as long as a week to go away. I've never
had this before and I ride in the same gear as I've
always ridden in, which includes suede half-chaps over
my tights. At first I thought it was a laundry
detergent allergy, as I've been known to react to
detergents before, but there was no change in our
detergent. It also doesn't matter if the socks are
inside or outside the tights -- I've tried it both
ways in case it was the socks causing the problem. It
has been a bit more humid this summer, but otherwise I
don't think it's any hotter than normal (I'm in So Cal
and it's usually 90-100+ during the summer on a daily
basis).

Is this heat rash? Anyone else have this problem?
Any hints on what to do to help? It's painful,
although luckily it usually doesn't start to hurt
until I get home and get my socks & tights off. And,
of course, during the healing process it then itches
and drives me mad (not a long trip).

Help!?
