Re: [RC] Travel Papers - sindy mccosker

This has always been a problem.  CA doesn't require brand inspections and you can't get one unless you are sending your livestock to slaughter (Isn't it now illegal for horses in CA to go to slaughter?). NV requires that you have have a brand inspection before crossing boundry lines in NV.  There is a brand inspection office in Reno that will sell you a brand inspection if you stop in to the office.

So......since you can't get a brand inspection in CA, do you have to stop and get one in Reno before driving across the state?  It seems stupid to me.

It is a federal requirement that a horse have a current coggins to cross state lines. You ALWAYS need a negative EIA (equine infectious anemia) test (coggins or elisa) and a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection aka Health Certificate.

OK, as a California person who has only been to one Nevada ride (and traveled through the state to another), how do you go about getting a brand inspection?  How long does it take, and how much does it cost?  (I may never leave the state again!)
