Re: [RC] LD/50 mile speed comparsion - Truman Prevatt

There are many CTR sanctioning bodies - NATRC being only one - and if you read further you would have found that I used SEDRA as my basis for the time window simply because that is the one I know best. . The SEDRA time window for a 25 mile ride is 3:45 to 4:30.

In any endurance ride the rest is not counted in your ride time and this data was based on ride time and not elapsed time.

The other conclusions that can be drawn from this data is the mean ride time for LD rides is within the time window required for a Competitive Trail Ride and in a CTR there is no extended rest time as there is in a LD ride. The LD riders are going at the rate required to finish a 25 mile CTR but the LD horses get a 30 to 40 minute rest half way that is not counted in their time and the CTR horses don't get such a rest.

I disagree with that! A 25-35 mile NATRC ride (one day Novice, one day Open), at least in Regions 1 and 2 (Western US), include a 45 minute to 1 hr lunch stop AND two or three 15 minute P&R/vet checks. The horse typically spends 1.5 hours rest time in the course of a day's competition (rest time is not counted in calculating the *pace* of the ride.)

Also, I have never experienced an LD ride where the extended rest was not counted in my time -- I've had 6 hours to finish a 25 and that six hours includes time spend in the hold.
