Re: [RC] Permission from private land owners - Bonnie DavisHi Kari: Don't contact by letter if at all possible. It's easier to say 'no' via reply. Find out who the owners are and go visit them. In fact, take a batch of cookies or something. I've found getting permission to cross private land works well that way. Folks get to met you in person, see the kind of person you are and you can tell 'em you'll always close gates, never take anyone with you when riding, write a release if they like and let them know that if you see something wrong as you're riding along you'll tell 'em. My daughter checks stock for people and with a couple places, she picks up their mail for them too. (One lady who actually screamed at Becky to get off the neighbor's property even though Becky had permission now will let Becky ride her 300 acres because Becky found her dog one day about a mile from home and brought it back to the lady and didn't accept the reward.) Offer them a service along with your asking to let them ride on their land. You know the old saying, you can more flies with honey..... Should we offer some type of written release? Any suggestions would be helpful. My neighbors who live locally are no problem, but there's a few I need to contact my mail and have never met in person.
