I only had company about 4 or 5 times. Sometimes he would refuse, and after all the circling games, I finally got off and walked him about 100 ft. (or until I could find a log to mount on).Then we went on .I did honesty do that at least a dozen or so times. I would disgustly say, "Oh Rascal ,it's just a couch, bag what ever".I think he finally figured out if I was disgusted ,it was ok. Later I'd just say ,"Oh, silly it's just a rock".(all bogies are now called rocks to him). and I could feel him relax. He just wanted someone else to go first. Laurie/Rascal who is also starting a spooky mare and "looks forward 'to more silly starts on the trail."

I put it off as long as I could because that's how I am. The junior who
rode the old horse with me finally grew up, married and move away. That
sort of forced me to make him go out alone. >g<  On the other hand, when
I didn't have an older horse to follow and was using the dog, I just did
it until he got used to everything on that trail.  4 or 5 trips. It
wasn't as good as 2 years following an old horse but it got us past the
horse eating couch.
