I don't know how many of the folks who were at the Trough Creek Valley 25-mile
or 50-mile (July 12) read this list but if they do, a big thank you from me!
I'm the rider with the little black Morgan mare who was entered in the 25-mile
ride. This was our first official ride and Summer started out right in front.
Unfortunately, after about 6 miles, I could tell she a) was not listening to me
at all, b) was soaked with sweat and breathing hard, and c) was going to be in
front of everyone even if she dropped dead trying! So, I asked her to slow down
(ha!) and finally just had to dismount and wait until everyone had passed.

Thanks to everyone who asked if I was ok and to the folks who walked with us
for a few minutes, and to people who offered advice. Everyone's concern and
helpfulness was very heart-warming.

Unfortunately, once we got going again, Summer was lame. More thanks to John (I
think this was his name), the 50-mile drag rider who escorted us back to the
vet. And thanks to Dr. Amy Worrell DMV, who was able to determine that Summer's
right front heel was injured, most likely due to the ends the shoe 'stinging'
the heel (Grade 3 lameness).

And finally, thanks to Mr. Coleman, for hauling us back to base camp.

My first ride was certainly an eventful experience but we will try again!

Karen
