Re: [RC] Question for Ride and Tie people - Elite

I'm not a RAT'er, but do ride in shorts. My solution to my leathers (I use
webbers too) pinching or rubbing is to have them under the flap. Go up to
your stirrup bar and make a slit in the leather flap right below it so you
can hang your leathers under the flap and just have the stirrups hanging
below the flap. The area up near the stirrup bar is usually thinner leather
so that the bar "sets in" and doesn't create a bulge, so it is easy to make
a slit in that layer. Then thread the webber through from the back side
and onto the stirrup bar. (make the slit long enough that the leather can
still slide off in an emergency)
I'll bet this sounds as clear as mud!

I know there's some RAT'ers on this list, hopefully someone can help me
out.
I'm trying my first one next month at All Kidding Aside(VERY well named!)
Yesterday I went for a trial ride wearing bike shorts. I ride bareback in
bike shorts all the time with no problem. However, I discovered that
something was pinching the living heck out of my upper calf. I ride this
mare in an english(Wintec) saddle, because that's what fits her. I have a
merino seat cover on it. It wondered if the webbers would pinch me, but it
seemed like it was the edge of the flap. I already splurged for a full
merino cover for my endurance saddle, but that saddle doesn't fit her very
well. If someone's gonna have to be uncomfortable, I guess it's gonna have
to be me! Not that the black and blue pinch marks don't go lovely with the
71,000,000,000 mosquito bites and briar scratches! I just wondered what
other people rode in. I always see pix of RAT'ers riding in running
shorts.
I think my O'Keeheay's will be too hot. How about bike shorts and knee
high
socks? Of course that look might get me arrested by the Fashion Police.
Any
other ideas? Or just grin and bear it? Might take my mind off the other
pain?!?

Suzanne(endurance riders have the most mangled up legs on the face of the
earth, yet insist on wearing shorts!!!)
