[RC] [Guest] Small Horses and Endurance - Ridecamp Moderator

Teresa Lyles tlyles0814@xxxxxxx

I just want to put my 2 1/2 cents worth for the topic of small horses and endurance. I have a 14.2 (ish) Morab. He is 10 yrs. old. I've completed three 50s and close to a dozen 25s, 30s and 35s. I am about 160 lbs. with tack (on a good day).

Training and patience is the key, but small horses can do it...As with anything in this sport, proper training is important. A very wise woman reminded me when we were starting this crazy sport (yes, it's you, Elaine), that in the days of our ancestors, horses were not very big. Possibly around 14 hands or less!!!

I see some tall horses doing 25s, 50s, and 100s, but I also see smaller ones completing this task as well.

Most Arabs from long ago were rather small and were built and bred to go go go...

GOOD LUCK, Happy trails...
