[RC] Susan's vegies for horses reply...really - Nina Vasiliev

Whenever Susan sends me a reply, I keep it. So here's her comments to my question...Hope it helps.

Nina Vasiliev

" My daughter in law has an organic garden plot and we were wondering what
vegies the horses could have."

No foliage from tomatoes, potatoes, any of the squash family (or any other
vines other than peas or beans), peppers, eggplant or rhubarb. The beet
tops aren't toxic, but are extremely high in oxalates that bind calcium, so
don't go overboard with them (a handful or two is fine if they like them).
The big hard veggies like potatoes, cut them up into small chunks, we just
pulled a whole potato out of a pig's throat a few weeks ago. No green
taters. All of the other veggies are fine as a treat, but not as a
substitute for their regular forage.
