[RC] [Guest] Horse Sunburn Protection - Ridecamp Moderator

Tamara Taylor <tam319@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>

I have two pink-nosed horses. I use Udder Budder (a white creamy udder balm for
cattle) on their noses. It is thick, 'heavy duty' cream that stays put,
moisturizes the nose and keeps the rays out. It is not intended as sunblock but
it has worked for us. You can buy a small tub for a reasonable price from a
farm supply store. Just be sure it is Udder Budder (the white cream in a
white/pink tub) not the greenish udder balm (white and red tub). I have found
that regular sunscreen (even the waterproof sport types) don't last long
enough, especially on noses that get dunked in the trough. For peeling noses I
use Udder Budder or Zincofax diaper cream (also thick enough to stay put).
