Re: [RC] Starting youngster - Heidi Smith

Until you have a youngster well-balanced and working off of your body and
legs, you really need to be using a direct-rein approach. And that means
either a snaffle or a bosal.

Subject: [RC] Starting youngster

Hi all, am starting my 4 yr. old under saddle and am wondering what the
bit or hackamore of choice is. I'm thinking I'd like to start him with an
s hackamore, same get up I use with my other horse just because I like the
configuration. He will be used mostly for trail and some enduranace
riding, hopefully. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Karen, (not doing much in the soggy Shenandoah Valley)
