Re: [RC] Vet phobia - Lysane CreeWell, I've been getting different people to work around my filly, since I am the only one that handles her for any length of time and none of those people had any problems. Sure, she was watching them, but no fit as when the vet arrived. The man purposely approached her quickly, and petted her abruptly and she didn't do anything except eyeball him. A big difference from the rearing and jumping back when the vet did the same thing. The farrier is coming next week so I'll see how she behaves this time around, but she has never given him any major problems, other than the occasional stuff like trying to pull her leg away. But she does that to me too sometimes, her last effort at resistance :) She doesn't get her leg away so then she stands still. So I am more convinced now that it is really a "vet phobia" rather than a man or woman phobia. As was mentioned the medicinal smell may be the trigger - the thing that differentiates the vet from other strangers. I will try wearing the coveralls with all kinds of smells (medicine, dogs, rubbing alcohol, other horses) on it over the weekend and see how she reacts.
