But at both this year's High Valley ride and last year's Fort Howes ride, the "front runners" started out at a controlled (even if quickish) pace, and the rest of us just fell in nicely behind them--in both cases, I started out about "mid-pack" with other folks who were quite happily going out at a working trot, and there were folks behind who left at a walk.
