Re: [RC] [Guest] gold fish - SABRINA KOHOUTEK

Aren't you supposed to put those drops in the water so the fish won't die.
once, I fish sat for my niece and nephew. When I changed the water I forgot
to put the drops in and the fish died.
What do you do for the fish in your water trough?

I bought gold fish from Walmart last year. The over wintered in my heated
stock tanks just fine.
Not only did they do fine but they thrived.

Even once or twice when my bad boys unplugged the heaters and the tank
iced
up on top, the fish were fine. We lost one this way but the two others
were
OK.

Once in a very great while I throw in some pond fish food. But, mostly
they
eat what ever the horses drop in and algae.

This year since they've been so good for the tanks, I bought houses for
them. After the horses thru the houses around once or twice, they left
them
alone.

In the 20 gallon tank I have only 1, in the 50's I have 2 each. I think
the
50's need three to keep up though. Actually, my goldfish have really kept
down the green stuff.

Occasionally, I run the water in the tanks to freshen it up via it simply
overflowing. The fish leavings are a lot easier to clean than the algae. I
just catch up the fish and dump tank. Al of their leavings just float out.
I
fill it up again and dump the fish in.

I am sure no fish expert so those who are will be horrified by now reading
this :)

The mosquito fish I got did not last long at all. I think the goldfish
killed them.
