Re: [RC] EnduraMax vs. Summer Games Electrolytes - Susan Garlinghouse

It's a pretty safe assumption that KER has the calcium-phosphorus issues
worked out in either brand. When mixing your own, phosphorus is pretty much
a non-issue, as horses only lose a very negligible amount during exercise.
The only ions that you really need to pay attention to are sodium, chloride,
potassium, calcium and magnesium, with some dextrose, maltose or other
glucose source as a carrier.

I can see how that might be true if you're mixing your own electrolytes,
but
I would assume they took this into consideration when mixing the
electrolyte
mix and publishing the analysis?

Having said that, the comparison webpage does not list phosphorous, so I
don't know how much phosphorous is in an ounce of EnduraMax. Anybody got a
bucket of it handy that they could check? Summer Games lists calcium as
170
mg/oz and Phosphorus as 150 mg/oz.

I'm just trying to muddle through the numbers and I appreciate the input
of
those more knowledgeable than myself.

Salt, potassium chloride, dicalcium phosphate,

I used to use dicalcium phosphate in my home made electrolytes, but
someone said that since the dicalcium phosphate includes phosphorous no
matter how much I added I wasn't increasing my calcium to phosphorous
ratio. Advice anyone?
