Re: [RC] Cats and Horses - DESERTRYDR1We have several cats around our barn too, and one walked up to my mare's hind leg and started rubbing on it without otherwise making her presence known. My mare just kind of lifted the foot and gave her a little shove. Like saying "your bothering me!" But obviously no intention to hurt the cat. When this mare was little, she had a gray cat for a buddy. They were about the same color at that time, and looked really cute together. She liked to "pet" him, by rubbing her muzzle along his back. Every now and then she would pick him up with her lips. He actually didn't seem to mind too much. Now that she is stall bound with a torn suspensory ligament, the stallion across the aisle is her buddy. I think it's the closest to a mare he has ever been (except for one VERY accidental encounter) and he loves her! He calls when she gets out of sight, and greets her when she returns. She doesn't really care. She has never been herdbound, EXCEPT at endurance rides when any horse she spends more than 5 minutes with is automatically her best, most beloved companion whom she will absolutely DIE if she's separated from. jeri =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
