As a person who helps train novice with their horses, I like some of the Parelli techniques since they are precise and easy to follow, unlike some of the other trainers methods that leave you wondering what you are trying to accomplish, but you are right about his antics.  Some things just shouldn't be done.

I couldn't agree with you more. When I was a novice rider, I thought Pat
Parelli was the ultimate horseman. Now that I'm more experienced, I cringe
at his antics.
