Re: [RC] encysted small stongyles-wormer treatment - Heidi Smith

I've been using Quest since it came out every spring for these critters
and
I realize there have been some problems out there with it. I am very
careful
not to overdose with it and there have been no problems so far. What is
the
safer alternative? Heidi?

The 5-day fenbendazole purge. That is, if you are using it for encysted
strongyles. For general deworming--ivermectin. I use fenbendazole in
babies under 6 months or so, since ascarids are a part of the problem at
that age, and since ivermectin isn't as spiffy about killing ascarids as it
could be. But then I switch to ivermectin unless I think they are in need
of a purge. Tapes aren't an issue in my area--others here have already
discussed using pyrantel for tapes.

Heidi
