[RC] World Cup Etc..... - Laurie Whaley Pearson

On the day of the World Cup in the UAE, we also had an endurance race in Qatar. Same weather conditions and it started at 2 a.m..

In addition I have also been to FEI rides in Ireland when it was cold, windy and rain for days. The climbs had lots of deep mud, rocky and steep. At the end of the race the same head vet for Al Wathba and Al Reef, Dr. Andrew Dalglish spent the rest of the evening jugging, mudding and monitoring every horse in his care.

The grooms walked out horses both evenings it was a two day race. They hand walked and rubbed down every horse. The weather was far from 100 deg and the horses still received I.V.'s. It is standard for someone who has the money and a staff vet on hand to administer proper treatments.

When Al Shahania races in Qatar the stable vet Dr. Catherine Duncan is on hand thru out the entire race to see to the stables horses. They weight each horse on a regular basis and do blood work. She ultra sounds and scans the body to check for proper body functions following the events. Many of these large stables have in house labs and hospital barns. They spend a lot of time and money the preserve the horses.

You can check the race results for the past 5 years or so and see that some of these stables are still racing the same horses....... I am not saying it does not happen but they do not throw the horses out with the shavings.

Laurie
