[RC] small bumps on horses back - Teresa Van Hove

Grey has two hard bumps (about the size of a fingernail by 3/16" deep)
on his back -they are not symetrical but are 1 to 2 inches behind
where the saddle panels reach. They are not painful just to touch,
but they are to pressure ie if I rub on them ). He had a similar bump
last year on his girth area. It went away on its own. I did ride
quite a bit this winter (spring is looking much tougher for riding
here so glad I did).

I'm wondering if these could be initiated by the rubbing on the long
winter coat of if they seem likely to be something else. Saddle fits
pretty well and distributes pressure over its panels. NO dry spots.
I'm in the process of making some holes in a couple of pads so I can
keep pressure off these bumps and still ride. Am open to thoughts on
what likely causes these and what is the best way to get rid of them.
If the long hair causes them, maybe I'll have to clip a bit of a
saddle patch next year or someting.

Cheers,
Teresa
