[RC] Backyard breeders - CMNewell

I hope there will always be backyard breeders.
They are the ones responsible for keeping most of the genetic diversity that still exists in the Arabian breed, because they don't plan on making a living off of breeding to the "stallion du jour".

*I* am a backyard breeder. I try to produce correct, useful animals. I don't produce a slew of mediocre foals, figuring that I can dump the culls and make my farm's reputation on the one or two that stand out in the halter ring like some of the big farms do, either.

The last two I sold were to a distance rider, and I was tickled pink.

As for the warmblood inspections, etc., another thing that I will never do is send a stallion off to total strangers to be housed and trained for a "100 day test", either. The thought of that curls the hair on my toes.

And I'll say it again--I don't care how rigorous the warmblood inspections are alleged to be, I have seen some *terrible* excuses for horses which have been produced by breeding two "approved" individuals.
Apparently in Europe, they eat these specimens.
